How does GCN fuel your passion?
On the surface, Khadija resembles a typical student. She currently pursues a degree in International Studies, Molecular Biology and a minor in Chemistry at the University of Denver. However, unlike many peers, she spent her early childhood fleeing war and disease. Born in the archetypal failed state of Somalia, Khadija's family lived in constant fear of the next attack by warring tribal groups. With diminishing hope for peace, crime escalated every day. The only option was disease rampant refugee camps in Kenya. Fortunately, her family survived. Blessed with this opportunity, she now feels forever indebted to make a change in Africa. Global CaféNation brings together a fiery passion to help Africa with a sustainable business model. The current model does not only give aid, it invests in a program to ensure African children have the educational infrastructure to lift their continent out of poverty.
Having experienced strife in Africa firsthand Khadija believes the best way to help African youth is by providing them with necessary tools while giving the freedom to change circumstances. That’s why she firmly believes in the current model for producing change in Africa. In the future, Khadija plans to study abroad in India as she gains experience in development and aid. The lessons learned will help her work with Global CaféNation. This adventure will only further enhance her passion for global aid with new experiences under her belt!
Favorite Coffee
As someone who MUST drink coffee every morning, Khadija's favorite coffee is the Ethiopian Harrar. Not because she is obsessed with East Africa, although she is, but rather for its strong but still subtle flavor. The Harrar is not over powering, and is the perfect blend of body and unique aroma. The Ethiopian Harrar is a must try!
Favorite Origin
Khadija's favorite origin is definitely Guatemala! The direct trade, farm2cup relationship through our roaster not only provides superb tasting, hand picked coffee but fosters a personal relationship with the farmers. Working closely with the farmers, this coffee is a commitment to a socially conscious growth by making a difference from farm2cup. The profits from the coffee sales are utilized for building new homes, basic infrastructure, and for promoting ecologically responsible farming. This relationship highlights our belief in education because the Guatemalan coffee is not only improving education in Tanzania but simultaneously increasing education in the village of Trapichitos! Our Guatemalan Trapichitos coffee serves as a double impact making a difference at the source of the beans and in Tanzania with Global CaféNation!
